It’s been a whole 17 months since the Island’s last local election, but how well do you know the Isle of Wight Council?
Current councillors, sitting on the Island’s unitary authority, were voted in on 6th May 2021 after a shake-up saw the Isle of Wight Conservatives lose their majority and control of the council.
Now, although the Tories are not the ruling party on the Isle of Wight Council, they are the largest group.
The Alliance Group — made up of independent, Our Island and Green Party councillors — was voted in to rule the authority at the end of May last year — by 20 votes to 18 — and Councillor Lora Peacey-Wilcox became council leader.
Of the 39 seats on the Isle of Wight Council, there are now:
- 18 Conservatives
- 17 Alliance Group
- 1 independent Labour
- 1 Labour
- 1 Liberal Democrat
- 1 Vectis Party
Councillor Geoff Brodie left the Alliance Group just 4 months after it took control.
In February, the Conservative changes to the Alliance Group’s budget were approved on the casting vote of chair Councillor Brodie, showing how tight the split is in the council.

What a scruffy lot.. !
Soon to be joined, by a very expensive Council CEO.
Oh, how have they managed without one. Poor things.
As long as they stop “Morons”
parking on the pavement outside the Council Houses in Great Preston Road Ryde.
They will get mine and my families votes.
You’ll be lucky, have you seen the state of the persons parking on the pavement.
They don’t look the sharpest bunch.
