UPDATED: Heavy rain is likely to fall across the Isle of Wight late on Sunday and overnight into Monday morning – that’s according to the Met Office who have issued a yellow weather warning this morning (Friday).
Although it is currently unclear how far west the heaviest rain will extend, accumulations of 25-40mm could occur quite widely with perhaps 50-70mm in places.
The heavy rain will be accompanied by strong to gale force northerly winds.
Spray and flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions and there is a small chance that homes and businesses could be flooded.
The Met Office’s warning is in place from 21:00 on Sunday until 23:59 on Monday.
UPDATE SUNDAY – The Met Office have updated their warning, pushing back the start time by 3 hours.
A yellow weather warning for wind has now been issued to run alongside the rain warning, with gusts of 50-55mph possible along exposed coasts and over hills. Coming from an unusual (northerly) direction may increase the likelihood of wind-related impacts.
Large waves, spray and overtopping is possible.
Islanders should expect disruption to cross-Solent travel, especially Hovertravel and Red Jet services.
