Wessex Cancer Trust is asking local people to complete a survey on what they most need from non-medical cancer support.
The charity wants to hear from anyone who has any type of cancer at any stage, families and friends affected by cancer or anyone who has a job or other interest in cancer services.
Questions include the kind of worries and fears people experience from diagnosis to recovery, how non-medical support should be delivered, the quality and availability of support, and the accessibility of information and advice about different types of cancer.
The responses will help Wessex Cancer Trust to build an accurate picture of need, ensuring local people receive the best possible support from the charity.
Wessex Cancer Trust’s CEO, Rachel Billsberry-Grass, has said:
“It’s widely understood that a cancer diagnosis can have an effect on how we feel emotionally. We found through our own research in 2019 that 61% of people experienced worry, fear of anxiety. Despite this, support for cancer patients’ wider needs – including mental health, is often patchy and delayed.
“Many of you will be all too aware of the impact Covid-19 has had on cancer services. If the estimates and statistics prove to be true, the next few years will see an increase in the number of people needing our support.
“We’d really appreciate your input on how your views and experiences have changed, so we can be ready to provide that support in the best possible way.”
