A Newport man who claimed he was ‘okay to drive’ a few days after consuming cocaine is to be sentenced for drug driving in May.
Richard Harrison, 46, of Halberry Lane in Newport, admitted drug driving when he appeared at the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court last week (15th April).
Prosecuting, Giles Fletcher told the court that on 16th November, Harrison was seen by Police leaving the Sainsbury’s Petrol Station in Newport.
Officers followed the 46-year-old in his VW Golf, stopping him on St James’ Street. A roadside drugs wipe was conducted in which a positive reading for cocaine was recorded.
The court heard how cannabis was also found in Harrison’s system albeit a below-limit reading.
Harrison – a self-employed painter and decorator – was a man of previous good character.
Defending the 46-year-old, Oscar Vincent told the court that his client was fully cooperative with Police at all times and that he taken the class-A substance a few days before he was stopped and ‘felt okay to drive’ on the day in question.
The case was adjourned until the 30th May to allow a pre-sentence report to be compiled. Harrison was handed an interim driving ban.
It is amazing the amount of Numpty’s carrying out
crimes on this SMALL island, yet there seems to be a lot of
persons of previous good character !
That makes it ok
Lol
