Gritters will be treating the Isle of Wight road network from 19:00 tonight (Wednesday) as forecasters predict another cold night in store for the Island.
Overnight Island Roads’ fleet of gritters hit the roads for the first time this season, with the first frost of the 2024/25 winter greeting Islanders as they awoke this morning.
Now, it has been confirmed that the team will be deployed from the depot at Stag Lane for the second night in a row, beginning their operations from early evening.
Local weather forecasters IW Met Service say that tonight will start cold and clear which will lead to another slight frost as temperatures get close to around freezing in some parts. Temperatures will gradually rise after midnight high cloud pushes in from the West, acting much like an insulating blanket and lifting the temperatures slowly.
Towards dawn, the Island will see an increasing risk of a few wintry showers moving in off the channel with temperatures expected to be between 0-1c, with a few rural parts down to -1c, then rising closer to 2-3c later.
Island Roads is advising motorists to take extra care when driving with icy surfaces possible. You can find out which roads will be treated at https://www.islandecho.co.uk/gritting-routes/.
