Island Roads are sending their gritters out across the Isle of Wight road network from 14:00 this afternoon (Thursday) ahead of this evening’s anticipated snow.
As previously reported by Island Echo, a yellow weather warning for snow has been issued by the IW Met Service with accumulations of 3-5cm expected in central and western areas.
The amount of snow the Island will see is still being debated by forecasters both locally and regionally as there is much uncertainly about how things will develop – but there is potential for a ‘snow day’ tomorrow (Friday).
Gritters will be carrying out further gritting runs across the Island this evening and will remain on standby throughout the night.
Motorists are advised to drive carefully and according to the conditions.
