As Black Friday approaches, Grace’s Bakery is encouraging Isle of Wight residents to support local businesses first, whether that’s through buying local gifts, sharing posts online, or simply recommending a favourite island business to a friend.
From Friday 28th November to Monday 1st December, Grace’s Bakery will run its annual Wight Friday event: a celebration of local food, Island suppliers, and community spirit. While the bakery will be offering up to 30% off everything on their online shop, their message goes far beyond discounts.
This year, Grace’s Bakery hopes Wight Friday becomes a moment for Islanders to reflect on the value of their local high streets, food producers, makers, and family-run shops, especially during a challenging economic period for many small businesses.
Sarah Redrup, daughter of the Grace’s Bakery owners Ray and Carole Redrup, said:
“Black Friday has become a huge moment for the big online retailers.
“But here on the Isle of Wight, we have so many brilliant small businesses who rely on local support. Wight Friday is our way of encouraging people to think local first, because every bit of support matters, whether someone makes a purchase or not.”
Grace’s Bakery stresses that supporting local isn’t just about spending money. Islanders can make a huge difference by liking and sharing Facebook posts, leaving positive reviews, or recommending local businesses to friends and family.
Grace’s Bakery’s Wight Friday sale will feature discounts on their full online range, including their popular Christmas Treat Packs, Vegan Treat Packs, handmade festive cakes, and a wide selection of island-made products such as Isle of Wight Milk, Briddlesford Dairy items, Island Roasted Coffee, jams from the Island Jam Company, chutneys from Care in the Garden, and local honey.
Email subscribers can also sign up for an additional 10% off. Every product is made fresh to order overnight by the bakery’s skilled bakers and delivered island-wide the next morning, including delivery on Christmas Eve.
Sarah went on to say:
“Whether people shop with us or with any other amazing Island businesses, it all makes a difference,”
“Supporting local keeps our high streets alive, supports Islanders, and strengthens our community. Even a simple share or kind review can really lift a small business.”
Grace’s Bakery hopes Wight Friday inspires Islanders to choose local, this Black Friday and beyond.
The Wight Friday sale runs from 28th November to 1st December on the Grace’s Bakery online shop.

“Many local businesses charge more than the larger mainland companies.”
Yes, because their costs are higher…but at least what little profit they make stays on the Island, for local people, and doesn’t just end up in the pockets of greedy corporate investors.
