A large fire has broke out in the garden of a luxury property between Fishbourne and Wootton this afternoon (Monday).
Fire crews have been mobilised to Ashlake Farm Lane, where plumes of black smoke can be seen billowing into the sky.
Island Echo is told that a number of items including a greenhouse have been engulfed by the flames.
The blaze broke out just before 16:05.
UPDATE @ 16:30 – The fire has now been extinguished by Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service – but not before destroying garden items and causing some heat damage to a neighbouring garage.
3 appliances from East Cowes and Newport remain on scene and damping down is in progress.
It’s understood the property owner was carrying out a controlled burn on the slipway leading onto Wootton Creek earlier today, which is thought to have then ignited nearby objects.
Local residents have reported hearing a number of loud explosions as the fire took hold.
That’s a lot of black smoke for a garden shed fure
Carried out a controlled burn!!!
Who pays the bill for the emergency service?…the idiot should in my opinion..
Moron, if you make people pay, no one will call them, then we’ll have fires burning out of control.
In your pathetic thinking then, he would have let his and his neighbours house’s burn down then?
Idiot..
Judging by the size of that house I’d say the owners huge rip-off Council Tax bill already paid for the emergency service.
Judging by the size of that house, I think they could afford it….
Is it a British thing, when someone has achieved success in life we put them down, yet if your successful in the US they praise you…what is wrong about success??.
What a stupid comment
Must be too difficult for you to understand..
Its paid for by our taxes you idiot .
Should have taken the rubbish to the tip!
Probably one of the UK’s oligarchs having a week on the island in one of their 10 houses.
‘Controlled burn’ at a time when people have their washing out! Arrogant imbecile. The rich think they own the place and can do what they like, when they like with no regard for people around them.
And if they did it at 2am ??
Judging by the black smoke I reckon he was burning the old tyres off the Bentley, too mean to take them to the tip or pay for disposal when having new ones.
Who’s hiding in the bushes.
Colonel Sanders by the look of it
I particularly like the triangular hazard sign. Excellent foresight…
Was the shed full of tyres ?
I know this family, they have worked hard all their lives and live on the Island.
They are devastated with what has happenend.
The reason for the black smoke, is not what they were burning but what caught fire.
As I say they are devastated and people throwing rocks at them, (insults) without knowing the full facts
does not help.
without knowing the full facts. Fire is the fact. Don’t burn rubbish. Take it to the tip.save a lot of hassle when fire gets out of control. Not only that. what about neighbourhoods getting the smoke in there lungs in the household can’t open windows.and after all that you say to yourself I should have gone to the tip.
