The reopening of Kings Road – a main road into Bembridge – will not take place until next week, Island Roads has confirmed. Island Roads confirmed this week that during investigations, in at least 1 location, there is the need to excavate further than originally planned in order to establish firm foundations. It was on Monday 18th March that works on site in Bembridge began, with it planned that the road would be closed round the clock until the 9th April – minus the long Easter Bank-Holiday weekend. Residents and businesses were initially in uproar over the decision to schedule the works to take place through at least 1 week of the Easter break, calling it a disaster for the High Street. Others said that the busy 2-week school holiday was the first time they would’ve been able to make some money since the end of the previous season. But, it is now hoped that the works can be completed – depending on ground conditions – on either Wednesday 17th or Friday 19th April meaning access to the seaside village has been severed for the entirety of the school holidays. An Island Road spokesperson has said:
“We appreciate this will extend the length of the current road closure, but carrying out this reconstruction to a greater depth now should reduce the need for future maintenance and the associated disruption.
“We will update you further as work nears completion. The current signage advising access to businesses via Forelands Road will remain in place until the works have completed. We will, however, be updating the advance warning signs (yellow noticeboards) this morning with the revised dates for completion of this scheme.”

Remember ?? a few years ago now that all in one road machine came over dug up and relayed at the same time?why has shiteland roads not got something like it, my road still near as good as when they layed it ,unlike shiteland road effort that’s bollocks after less than 2 years..

Keeps out the ruffians and thus helps keep our local children nit free.
Only those in affordable housing complain as they have to go without their daily Mc D’s and eat decent meals for once.

Ah, in fairness their pay is shocking. Total company profits and dividends for executives…now that’s a scandal worth getting annoyed about.
How long can it take to put a few patches on these roads are they ding it by shovel!!
It would be quicker if they used a pick and shovel but the poor loves can only work in a seated position these days. They are useless. Roads laid by Island Roads are so bad that you could probably break the surface up with a garden rake.
