Engines troubles are once again causing disruption on Red Funnel’s vehicle ferry service with Red Osprey pulled from operation today (Saturday).
A total of 2 crossings have been cancelled so far this morning; the 07:30 from Southampton and the 09:00 from East Cowes.
It’s said that a problem with the aft main engine is to blame for the cancellations.
On Thursday night, 2 evening crossings had to be cancelled to nurse Red Osprey into Friday, with 2 early morning sailings also pulled.
UPDATE @ 09:06 – A further 8 sailings have been cancelled on Red Funnel’s East Cowes-Southampton route.
The 10:30, 13:30, 16:30 and 19:30 sailings from Southampton have now been pulled, alongside the 12:00, 15:00, 18:00 and 21:00 sailings from East Cowes.
It is due to ongoing maintenance to Red Osprey’s aft engine.
Earlier in the week, sister vessel Red Eagle was suffering also with aft main engine troubles which led to a number of cross-Solent cancellations.
Red Funnel is advising that there may be further disruption to their vehicle ferry and hi-speed services today due to adverse weather conditions.

At least today the Ferry operators and Hovertravel
have a genuine excuse.
Build a tunnel and services would not be affected.
Pathetic as usual any other news this crap company can come up with ..it’s getting boring now.Alot of people i know dont even bother now with dead funnel just go and take a better chance wth wightlink..
We very nearly booked with Dread Funnel today. Thankfully, we used Lymington-Yarmouth instead, which was bang on time. Will RF ever understand that, when you have old ships, you have to spend more time and money on preventative maintenance and holding stocks of spares?
