Hundreds of pounds worth of diesel has been stolen from the fuel tank of a coach in Shanklin – the third such incident in recent weeks.
It’s said that the theft occurred when the commercial vehicle was parked at Winchester House long stay car park in Shanklin overnight – Monday into Tuesday.
As previously reported by Island Echo, around 600-700 litres of diesel was stolen from the tanks of a coach parked in the same car park off Sandown Road on 8th/9th June.
Police have been made aware of the incident.
A local has told Island Echo:
“This is awful and really affecting people’s livelihoods. If this continues coaches won’t want to park here”.

Maybe, just maybe, they should stop parking there?
Thats like saying
”well maybe the people working behind the tills shouldn’t work there if they don’t want to have money robbed from them”
Twonk
And it will continue unless fuel prices come down
Or until the chocolate teapots get off their backsides and apprehend the thieves. Oh no, that would mean doing their job. Far better to apprehend some name callers.
The Government really should step in ,the price of fuel has gone down, but it’s not being passed down to us mere mortals !!!!
Profiteering from us all !!!!
Also if Government removed taxes for a while it would help us all ….
Life is not easy at the moment, so any cuts would be welcome….
Morrisons is 3p a litre more than Asda !!!!!!!
This will continue to happen until something is done re cost of filling up !!!!!!
I agree that the government should step in but not necessarily with tax cuts that will only have to be recouped elsewhere (in more taxes). With the top three fuel companies, Shell, Esso and BP, posting higher profits than ever before, in the hundreds of billions of pounds, a massive windfall tax on them should be passed on to the price at the pump, unlike the 5p a litre vat cut that was never passed on at the pumps but kept by the petrol stations.
5p cut in fuel duty ,not value added tax.
Would you like another hair to split?
Never known the island to stoop so Low it is definitely getting worse here
One wonders why, but we cannot choose who lives here
Our local authority could choose not to take payment for importing undesirables from mainland authorities that they don’t want in their towns, in order to fill the unneeded houses we build here. It’s adding degradation to our Island demographic.
Quite likely a mainland gang.
Well worth coming over for. Loads of coaches brimming with fuel parked up in insecure locations. 700l of diesel now worth £1400. Well worth the ferry fare.
Mark West and Ben that have posted there disgusting comments, shows how broken our attitude to crime is.
What is dragging people like this up??.
Sorry snowflake
So why is it happening then? When fuel was cheaper fuel theft wasn’t happening on the island was it. So my comment about fuel prices needed to come down is true
wtf! what you said was spot on mate. letting you know is either a big snowflake or a troll
Your so intelligent….snowflakes and trolls, such big Big words, did you go to school???
So your logic is to steal from innocent people then??…just steal what you can’t afford or work for??
Your disgusting…
When arson on seafronts looks like it was fuelled with diesel, we know why they are stealing it.That much fuel would have to go through the books otherwise. Not Ventnor, of course, as nothing suspicious happens there. Apart from the pier, the town hall, the beach hotel, the Metropole hotel, the royal sandrock hotel, the pier again, and the arcade. Have I missed any?
Any update on the Shanklin jewellery theft?
Last seen peddling off into the sunset, not even a picture?
Cost of fuel is not an excuse,we all either pay or go without, don’t steal it! I can’t afford an iPhone 14 but don’t go and steal one. Cost to the thieves will be greater if caught and named and shamed and loose their job’s etc.
i very much doubt they have jobs
>Can’t afford a basic phone
You ever heard of this thing called a job?
Oh, do wake up.
This is clearly an organised gang. This is the kind of thing they do for a living. They have zero shame and have no jobs to lose.
That’s because there’s no such thing as an iPhone 14
It is going to take a lot more police and a lot of time to reverse the affect of the Tories policies in removing the roads policing unit from the island.
Not being funny but there a few gypsys that came here in almost brand new motor homes, they been parked up in shanklin
Case closed, well done detective Noodles (Insert “roll eyes” emoji here)
As coaches run on diesel, maybe the police should look to the thick, black, acrid diesel-like smoke which came off the Arcade Fire in Ventnor. They won’t, because it wasn’t suspicious on day three after the fire: just as the site owner said on day one. That fire nearly killed a couple in their nineties, but isn’t worth investigating apparently.
