Police are investigating the theft of up to 700 litres of diesel from a coach in Shanklin.
At some point overnight between Wednesday and Thursday last week, around 600-700 litres of diesel was stolen from the tanks of a coach parked off Sandown Road.
The vehicle was parked outside YMCA Winchester House in a car park off the main Lake to Shanklin road.
At today’s prices, it is estimated that the thieves got away with £1,120-£1,310 of fuel. It’s understood the diesel was drained from the tank.
Island Echo understands it is the second time a coach has been targeted in this location.
Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact police on 101, quoting 44220227973.

Controversial…but good for them.
How is that good for anyone? Its criminal.
So when your house is broken into & burgled to off-set the burglar’s ‘cost-of-living’ problems… good for them??
I don’t think that you can compare a national coach company to a private residence of someone’s home.
Maybe, if more people took more direct action then the rich establishment governing this country might start listening to us, the little people.
Enough is enough !
Theft is theft !!!!!!
If you are a thief the cost eventually gets passed on to thr innocent people ,through insurance premiums shop price’s etc so scum that thieve are costing us folk more money ….
Should have hands cut off or be tattooed on forehead with thief !!!!!!
No room for human rights when scum are involved…..
really jollop….
would you like it if someone connected cables to your electricity supply, leaving you with on ongoing bill for elec they are using.
would you like it if someone shut off your gas supply, cut a hole in the pipe, attached another pipe and then turned it back on, getting free gas with you paying the bill.
What do you mean ?
A bit like Russia are doing to Europe ?
Typical village idiot comment. Apologies to all of the other village idiots but Dr.jollop heads the pack.
ALL I WAS SAYING IS THAT THE PEOPLE WHO STOLE IT ARE NO WORSE THEN THE BIG ENERGY COMPANIES THAT ARE DOING THE SAME……
Think for yourself and stop acting like sheep.
Reminds me a bit of robin hood.
Your a communist far left nut case..
Surely that would take some time to drain the coach of diesel !!!!!
Somebody must have seen something ?
Would have had to be a large vehicle to carry that amount of fuel !!!!!
Cctv anpr ?????
700 litres is 700 kilograms so a small van or a pickup, would only take 3 or 4 minutes with an electric pump, there will be more of this until prices drop
Yep that’s like 15 car tank fulls and 140 green fuel can’s !. Legally can only carry 4 me thinks, any vans of the like could be stopped and searched at night by police, possibly mainland,£100 ferry rtn for £1000 plus. They probably been doing regular, often taking smaller amounts so as not be suspicious. As for Dr Jollop, like or not we need coaches bringing visitors to the Island,if not we will all be poorer and cost of living on the Island would rocket.
140 green cans? I don’t think so, are the Police about at night?
Police, what police, the few on the island clearly have no interest in theft, not worth the time and paperwork
Sorry but you’re thinking of water!
It’s water that weighs the same as its volume, i.e., 1 kilo of water occupies 1 litre of space.
Oil is lighter than water (which why oil floats on top of water) – Diesel oil actually weighs around 835 – 850 grams per litre. So 700 litres would actually weigh around 590 kilos.
But you are right about the potential for increased thefts of oil, particularly domestic heating oil waiting to be pinched from your big green plastic tank in the garden while you sleep.
I was thinking that too. I can only assume they pretended to be a recovery vehicle ‘mending’ the coach.
If there were more police about then there would be more frequent checks in these places and would have been caught.
White Van Man, they need to keep up their aggressive tailgating…
Such selfish action requires more security for coach companies which then means added cost all round and ultimately the customer footing the bill who are very often pensioners on a budget with these coaches, perhaps hard up grandparents of the rather odd character making so many juvenile remarks on this page.
So the far left are saying if someone is more successful than you, simply steal from them, and take what you want…
Crime pays, especially for those that don’t have to get out of bed in the morning…
It’s inevitably going to happen a lot more now the prices at the the pumps are so unaffordable
The price of fuel doesn’t stop the idiots from driving uneconomicly, the idiots would rather put fuel in the tank instead of the electric meter…
