Friends and family of a Liverpool man who died whilst enjoying a holiday on the Isle of Wight with his grandchildren have launched a GoFundMe appeal. It was last Sunday (11th August) that George was taken ill whilst splashing around in the sea with his grandsons at Freshwater Bay. The boys managed to pull George clear of the water and onto the beach, where CPR was given. As previously reported by Island Echo, the Hampshire & Isle of Wight Air Ambulance, the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service and HM Coastguard were all deployed to the scene to provide assistance. Sadly, George died at the scene with his wife by his side. Family friend Kirsty has now launched a fundraiser to help towards the repatriation of George back to his home in Liverpool. Kirsty has said:
“This is a massive shock to all his friends and family , and if we can take the pressure off a little with helping toward the cost of bringing him home and even something towards the funeral I’m sure it would bring comfort to the family. “Anyone who knows George knows how much his dog Mya meant to him too. Mya was also present on this holiday and emergency services allowed Mya in the back of the ambulance to see him for one last time. “The children at such young ages have witnessed such tragic events and any money over would go towards them for a day out somewhere nice”.

God how sick
Not as sick as you think. Under UK law, you are perfectly entitled to transport a deceased body without recourse to a professional service provider. This is worth knowing because it is something that is widely misunderstood in Britain where it remains the norm to appoint funeral directors to do this sort of work. If someone dies at home, then you will need a doctor’s certificate that declares the death officially before you can move them to a suitable location until the funeral can be arranged. Transporting a deceased body needs to be done respectfully. The body will need to be covered and laid flat out. Therefore, the only sorts of vehicles that are appropriate for this are vans and estate cars.
Hang on a second, so if I died up north I will get buried up there??? More tory cuts for you. There was a time you would be shipped back home from anywhere in the world.
I am sorry to read that the man died on holiday here.
Maybe get him cremated on the island and take the ashes back home?
I cannot afford a holiday so unable to help.
I thought the same but was worried to comment for fear of negative comments back .Last time I looked the Isle of Wight was part of the UK. I’m sorry this happened to this family but we have paid out in the past for family members to be brought home .It is expensive but is easily arranged .
