THEATRE: FOR ONE NIGHT ONLY THE WALKERN WITCH IS COMING TO NEWPORT’S APOLLO THEATRE

The Walkern Witch is a new play, being presented as a rehearsed reading at Newport’s Apollo Theatre on 18th November.  Developed by the Apollo’s Gateway Club, the play uses contemporary documents, folk songs, and a good pinch of gallows humour, to tell the true story of Jane Wenham, who was sentenced to death in 1712. In keeping with the Gateway Club’s open-house policy, the cast includes a mixture of seasoned performers, along with some who are setting foot on stage for the first time. The bar will be open before and after the show, which lasts for just under an hour. Doors open at 19:00 and the reading commences at 19:30. This is a free event in aid of Independent Arts, but tickets must be booked in advance at www.apollo-theatre.org.uk
