Dense fog across the South Coast is resulting in travel disruption on cross-Solent services this morning (Friday).
Red Funnel have had to cancel the 06:45 Red Jet from West Cowes to Southampton as a result of the reduced visibility.
The operator says it is highly likely that there will be further disruption to the hi-speed Red Jet service, as well as their vehicle ferry service from East Cowes.
Wightlink and Hovertravel are operating to a normal timetable this morning.
UPDATE @ 06:50 – Red Jet services have been suspended until further notice.
Meanwhile, passengers on board the vehicle ferry Red Falcon say that they have been prevented from entering Cowes Harbour.
UPDATE @ 07:15 – Red Funnel have now suspended their East Cowes to Southampton vehicle ferry service.
It is unknown when services will resume.
At the other end of the Solent, Hovertravel are running with delays of 15 minutes between Ryde and Southsea.
UPDATE @ 08:21 – The cross-Solent situation has deteriatred with 30 minute delays now being reported on Wightlink’s Yarmouth-Lymington service, as well as 30 minute delays on Hovertravel’s Ryde to Southsea route.
All Red Funnel services remain suspended until further notice.
UPDATE @ 08:55 – Red Jet has now returned to a normal timetabled service, Red Funnel have confirmed.
UPDATE @ 09:33 – Wightlink’s Yarmouth-Lymington car ferry service is now operating 60 minutes behind timetable.
UPDATE @ 12:00 – Red Funnel’s vehicle ferry service is now back in operation following the earlier fog disruption.
It has been advised that the 18:00 from Southampton will depart at 17:50 and the 19:30 from East Cowes will depart at 19:00.
