The Cowes Floating Bridge remains suspended this morning (Tuesday) with no word from the Isle of Wight Council as to when services will resume. It was on Thursday afternoon – 5 days ago – that the troubled Floating Bridge No.6 was pulled from service, owing to an electrical issue. Contractors were called in to investigate and repair the problem with the Isle of Wight Council stating on Friday that it hoped the issue could be rectified within 24 hours. However, several days on and the service remains suspended – with no indication as to when it is likely to resume. The vessel is docked on the East Cowes side. The lack of a River Medina crossing hit hard yesterday when a road traffic collision on the main road in and out of East Cowes led to traffic chaos. The usual foot passenger launch is in place for foot passengers and cyclists operating Monday to Saturday 05:00-23:00 and Sundays 06:30-23:00. UPDATE – The Isle of Wight Council says that delays with cross-Solent ferries – namely the suspension of Red Funnel’s vehicle ferry service on Monday – has led to a delay in the delivery of spare parts. A spokesperson has said:
“We appreciate your patience during this time as we work towards resolving this issue.
“We will provide updates as soon as more information becomes available”.
