London is a magical place for millions of people worldwide, whether you live in the UK or abroad, and when it comes to some of the hotels they really are bucket list destinations. As we get older that’s certainly the case, with the idea of being pampered, dining with fine china and enjoying an experience fit for royalty becoming more and more of a desire. Of course, for many that doesn’t quite happen, but if you’ve got the money and want to treat a loved one, whether it be your partner, parent or a grandparent who wants to enjoy one last luxury experience before they need help and the likes of nursing care homes, it’s something well worth paying for. Across the city, and in particular areas such as Mayfair, there are several once-in-a-lifetime luxury hotels to consider. So, are you ready? Get the credit card out…
The Ritz London
Mayfair’s The Ritz is one of the most well-known hotels on the planet and is synonymous with elegance, luxury and sophistication. Opening its doors in 1906 its neoclassical architecture has long wowed guests, with the grand lobby and its marble columns and crystal chandeliers certainly letting you know you’re in a hotel that is rather magnificent. Alongside quite stunning rooms, a meal at its Michelin-starred restaurant can really cap off an evening, while on Fridays and Saturdays you can even enjoy dinner and a dance, to really enrich the experience.
The Savoy
Located on the banks of the Thames, The Savoy is equally as famous. The legendary hotel has welcomed all manner of royalty, dignitries and celebrities down the years. Instantly recognisable, thanks to its Art Deco facade, inside it’s just as stunning, with a timeless elegance and charm. The iconic American Bar is the perfect place to start an evening, with some of the best cocktail makers in the world ready to pour you a drink, and from there you can head out into Theatreland to enjoy a show, or get a table at Gordon Ramsay’s Savoy Grill for some of the finest food in London.
Claridge’s
Another Mayfair residence, Claridge’s opened in 1856 and has been a bastion of luxury and refinement ever since. It’s renowned for its lavish decor and Art Deco glamour combined with an English heritage that makes the stay a quintessentially English experience. Afternoon tea in the iconic Foyer and Reading Room is a particular highlight, while Davies and Brook will provide you with a Michelin-starred evening meal that really isn’t worth missing out on.
The Dorchester
Overlooking Hyde Park, The Dorchester opened its doors in 1931 and is a great option if you want a great view of the park. As well as some of the most fabulous rooms and suites in London, the hotel is one of the best places for luxury dining, with Alain Ducasse at The Dorchester and China Tang both phenomenal gastronimic experiences. After a night enjoying fine dining, then why not indulge in the spa, another of The Dorchester’s jewels in its crown.
The Langham
Finally, in the West End of London, The Langham is a hotel that combines timeless charm and elegance with modern sophistication. It’s a true taste of London luxury and has been since 1865. Ideal for those wanting to explore the heart of the city too, it’s on the doorstep of the likes of Bond Street, as well as being opposite the BBC. So you never know, you may well rub shoulders with a celebrity or two. Within the hotel, you’ve got some great restaurants, including Roux at The Landau, while afternoon tea at Palm Court is a must, with many believing it to be the birthplace of the very British tradition.
