Bembridge RNLI’s All Weather Lifeboat launched to assist a 16m fishing trawler that had suffered a mechanical failure this morning (Sunday).
‘Alfred Albert Williams’ was launched at the request of Solent Coastguard at around 09:00 to take over towing the trawler, which had broken down whilst in the fishing grounds to the South East of the Island, from another fishing boat.
By the time Tamar-class lifeboat reached the casualty vessel – with its 5 crew members onboard – it was 3 miles north of the Nab Tower.
Having taken over the tow, Bembridge Lifeboat took the trawler into Portsmouth Harbour and handed her over to a local fishing boat to manoeuvre her into the Camber once the Wightlink ferry had sailed from Gunwharf.
Portsmouth Coastguard Rescue Team met the fishing trawler at the dockside.
The Alfred Albert Williams returned to Bembridge and was recovered by 12:45.
