Search and rescue teams were tasked to a report of a person in difficulty near Ryde Pier last night (Friday) – but things weren’t quite as they seemed.
Both Bembridge Coastguard Rescue Team and Ryde Inshore Rescue were tasked by Solent Coastguard at 20:52 to a possible person in trouble off Ryde.
Ryde Rescue 2 lifeboat was launched and shore-based Coastguard Rescue Officers made their way to the scene off the Esplanade.
However, the incident soon declared a false alarm with good intent.
It turned out that the person in reported difficulty was in fact a local fishermen.
It all sounds a bit fishy to me!
