Nearly 40 young riders rode a route around the streets of central Newport, to campaign for children and young people to be able to travel safely and independently by bike last Saturday (16th March). The youngest independent cyclist was just 3 years old, with the youngster in full control of his pedal cycle, and able to keep up with the group with no trouble. Other children were accompanied by grown-ups, with one on a seat on his dad’s crossbar. Cyclewight’s marshals had carefully planned the route and managed to keep the group together round the circuit while bringing smiles to the surprised shoppers out in town on Saturday morning. A total of 3 e-cargo bikes from Island-company Keert equipped with speakers were part of the peloton, playing music and greetings to cyclists and onlookers. A spokesperson for Cycle Wight has said:
“The police had arranged for a pedalling PCSO to join and monitor the ride, and ensure there was no trouble for the cyclists or other road users; she seemed to have a fun time. “There was a really joyful feel in the town, and hopes are high that a series of these rides can be arranged in other island towns.

Bless them. What a brilliant initiative.
Why aren’t they driving cars like normal people? This is generation snowflake!
Where helmets please and the adult riding out front
Another snowflake comment
What makes me angry.
IW Council provides cycle lanes along Fairlee Road and the new
Cycle Lanes along Ryde Esplanade.
Yet cyclists don’t use them and ride along the road.
They should be fined for not using cycle lanes, imagine if Vehicles
drove along in cycle lanes, the lycra brigade would have a sh@T fit!
I have no time for cyclists, morons on 2 wheels!, causing nothing but a
disruption to paying motorists
I have no time for childish comments, or drivers who think they actually own the roads. Everyone pays tax, directly or indirectly so we all pay to use the roads, fact. Too much motorised traffic, backed up in endless queues, having accidents all the time, filling up towns and belching out fumes that poison us all, … makes me so angry! 😉
No! It’s cyclists that cause the pot holes, not my EV. Cyclist should pay for the roads, not me!
