Firefighters are working alongside paramedics to get an injured individual to hospital – by extricating them from a top floor flat through the window.
Paramedics were called to George Street in Ryde shortly before 20:00 tonight (Friday) to attend an injured individual located inside a residential address.
The Isle of Wight Ambulance Service soon requested the assistance of blue light colleagues from Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service in helping to remove the casualty, for onward conveyance to St Mary’s Hospital.
Island Echo understands the nature of the injuries, mixed with the restrictive access to the top floor of the building, where the casualty is located, has led to the decision to call in the Aerial Ladder Platform (ALP).
The individual has been placed on a stretcher and is being placed onto the ALP, to be lowered to the ground and into the awaiting ambulance.
Police have closed George Street from its junction with Esplanade to Cross Street.
Southern Vectis buses are on local diversion.
