The alarm was raised at around 16:30.
UPDATE @ 17:55 – An aerial ladder platform from Ryde has joined the firefighting efforts.
Main jets are being utilised alongside 4 breathing apparatus and 2 hose reel jets.
It’s understood the occupants have safely evacuated the property and are being cared for by neighbours.
Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service says the fire started in a garden shed but has now spread to the main residence.
UPDATE @ 18:30 – Fire crews from across the Island are now on scene at Alverstone – just over 12 hours after tackling another property fire in Shanklin and a tumble dryer fire in Yarmouth.
The full extent of the fire isn’t expected to be realised until tomorrow as firefighters continue to tackle the flames.
UPDATE @ 21:57 – Firefighters have tackled the blaze using 16 sets of breathing apparatus, 4 main jets and 3 hose reels and have isolated the electrical supply to the property.
The fire is now surrounded but due to a partial roof collapse 2 crews from Newport and Cowes remain on the scene damping down hotspots. Crews will return to reinspect the property throughout the night.
It has been confirmed that the roof, first and ground floor have been damaged by the fire with the ground floor also suffering water damage.
