Fire crews have been mobilised to a flat fire in Shanklin this lunchtime (Monday).
2 appliances from Newport and Ryde are currently on scene at Salem Road, where a fire has broken out within a residential flat at Victoria Court.
The alarm was raised shortly before 12:10.
There is a strong smell of burnt foodstuffs wafting from the windows that have been opened to ventilate the property.
Entry tools and a hose reel have been utilised and the situation appears to be under control.
Police are also present.
It’s understood a third appliance from Ryde was mobilised to the scene but was stood down en-route.
UPDATE @ 12:40 – It has been confirmed to Island Echo that the fire started in the kitchen and has involved food.
Crews are now standing down from the incident with safety advice given to the occupier.
