Firefighters have been mobilised to a derelict care home in Sandown this lunchtime (Sunday).
Several appliances are on scene at Stonehaven on Carter Street, at the junction with St Johns Road.
The Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue service were alerted to the unfolding situation at around 13:00.
UPDATE @ 13:58 – 4 appliances from Ryde, Sandown and Shanklin are tackling a small fire in the stairwell of the ground floor.
Investigations are being carried out to ensure no persons are inside the building.
Road closures are in place locally.
UPDATE @ 14:05 – The incident is beginning to wind down as fire crews contain and extinguish the fire.
Police are on scene as a result of potential suspicious circumstances.
UPDATE @ 19:10 – Police are appealing for anyone with information to get in touch.
A spokesperson for Hampshire Constabulary has said:
“Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding a fire in a derelict building on Carter Street, Sandown.
“The incident was reported to us at 1.25pm on Sunday, 9 June.”
