The Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service have been in action already this morning (Tuesday) after being called to reports of a flat fire in Ryde.

2 appliances – 1 from Ryde and 1 from Newport – were mobilised to Melville Street in the centre of town at around 05:20.

It has been confirmed that a small kitchen fire had developed as a result of a box being left on top of a cooker. Thankfully, the fire was swiftly extinguished by the property’s occupants prior to the arrival of the fire service.

With almost no action required, the stop message was put in at 05:43 and crews stood down.
