2 people are being treated for the effects of smoke inhalation as firefighters tackle a fire at a block of flats in Ryde this lunchtime (Monday).
3 crews from Ryde, Newport and Sandown are on scene at Belvedere Street, at the junction with Melville Street, having been called at 12:45. The Incident Command Unit is also in attendance.
The incident, which appears to have begun on the lower levels of the building, is under control.
UPDATE @ 13:27 – Paramedics from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service are now on scene and are assessing the casualties.
Police are also in attendance.
The incident is being scaled back with just 1 appliance remaining on scene.
UPDATE @ 15:30 – Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service has confirmed that the fire involved items located outside a flat, which were extinguished using a hose reel jet.
The incident is not being treated as suspicious.
Post-incident community safety activity was carried out and crews left the scene shortly after 13:47.

That was my bike and I stoped there got everyone out the tackeld the fire until the emergency services got there so think it might be alright to have parked there
