Fears of a fire in an outbuilding at GKN in East Cowes prompted a response from several Island fire crews this lunchtime (Thursday). Pumping appliances from Newport, Ryde and Sandown were called to the scene on Saunders Way having been made aware of an ongoing incident shortly after 11:30. It was believed that a fire had started in an outbuilding. Crews spent around 30 minutes on scene assessing the situation. With the situation not as serious as first thought, those present are beginning to stand down and head back to their respective stations.

From what I have been reading thesedays about this shambles of a service
I am surprised they turned up.
What the fcuk is happening thesedays, since the Plandemic no one wants to do
anthing.
Thank the Tories for that, too busy stealing our tax money to run the country.
I think you are spot on at one time you could always depend on the fire service, now
waste of space look what happened in the floods nothing!
they sent 3 engines? going on how this new lot seem to manage it from the mainland, surprised they never sent an overpaid Fire Manager to decide if there was a justified risk or not!
Exactly, GKN have own fire marshal’s a small fire in a shed should be managed by them rather than wait 20mins for fire brigade and let fire get hold waiting, but maybe GKN had sorted and no role fire brigade!.
They Marshall people out of the buildings not tackle fires, most places don’t let staff tackle fires
Actually I’m a Fire Marshal and yes we do support getting people out, we have been trained on how to prevent fire, causes of and also to tackle small fires to prevent getting worse should we asses safe to do. ( Some year’s back we went into smoke room and trained with real fire and extinguishers) .That’s why fire extinguishers are every where, they are not for show, they are to be used . Although I know we don’t no full circumstances here.
Considering this place seems to combust every other month, I’m not feeling super easy about getting in a plane if they make them!
What’s wrong with the East Cowes station, they would of been the closest station, then they could of relayed the message to the other pumps to stand down, talking about job saving cuts.
Probably didn’t have enough crew on call
Is the mayor walking around breathing on things?
