Fire crews are responding to St Mary’s Hospital in Newport this morning (Tuesday) following the activation of the hospital’s fire alarm system.
Appliances from Newport and Ryde are understood to be responding to the scene at Parkhurst Road having been alerted to the automatic alert at just before 10:20.
Island Echo readers report that an evacuation is taking place.
UPDATE @ 10:40 – No fire has been located and the incident has been stood down.
Patients, staff and visitors have been allowed back into the building following the alert in the Accident & Emergency department.
