A rare opportunity to see the award-winning film ‘Fawley’ by local filmmakers Chu Li Shewring and Adam Gutch, followed by a Q&A with the filmmakers and a drinks reception, is coming to the Quay Arts Centre this September.
To be held at the centre on Thursday 22nd September between 19:00 – 22:00, visitors will also get the chance to see works and features from local artists at the same time.
Telling the story of our human impact on the natural world through focussing on the demolition of a local landscape, ‘Fawley’ was awarded Best Short Film at Sheffield Doc Fest 2022.
On that occasion, the judges said:
“This is a distinctive and beautifully crafted exploration of the intersection of nature, architecture and the human experience. Bringing together the many voices involved in the landscape – power plant workers, bird watchers, local people and the creatures inhabiting the space – the film is a powerful poetic reflection on the psychological role of our surroundings and our symbiotic relationship with nature.”
Filmmaker Adam Gutch said:
“We are delighted to have teamed up with Quay Arts to screen this film on the Isle of Wight. The film is still under consideration at international festivals so isn’t available to the public yet, so the evening means a lot to us. Our work and our approach is shaped by our lives on the Isle of Wight, as is that of many of the artists whose work we have included in the film and in the exhibition. The film is about people and about nature and we hope that it resonates with other people.”
Entry to the event is free, with those interested urged to book online at https://fawleyscreening.eventbrite.co.uk.
