Wightlink staff lowered the rescue boat from the ferry St Clare to aid a vessel in difficulty at Fishbourne earlier this afternoon (Wednesday).
At around 16:30, as the wind started to pick up, the crew of the Fishbourne-Portsmouth ferry were made aware about a small fishing boat with engine troubles close to the terminal at Fishbourne.
Without hesitation, the ferry’s rescue boat was launched and 2 members of Wightlink crew went to the aid of the casualty vessel.
At the same time, Ryde Inshore Rescue were tasked to launch their lifeboat from Appley by Solent Coastguard.
Thankfully, the situation was quickly resolved and the small 16ft boat was safely put alongside the Royal Victoria Yacht Club pontoon ahead of the arrival of Ryde Rescue 1.
Volunteer lifeboat crew members gave safety advice to the 3 persons on board the casualty vessel as it was not equipped with a VHF radio or enough life jackets for those onboard.
The incident was brought to a close shortly after 17:00.
