The victim of a fatal road traffic collision at Cranmore last month has been named as 45-year-old Matej Gruber from Newport.
As previously reported by Island Echo, emergency services were called to Ningwood Hill, just to the west of Cranmore Avenue, at 01:22 on 23rd July following reports of a single vehicle collision.
Police, fire and ambulance crews arrived on scene to find a silver Renault Trafic had left the road.
Sadly, nothing could be done to save Matej’s life and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Today, Matej’s family have paid tribute to the talented carpenter:
“Matej was an incredibly talented carpenter who specialised in shepherd’s huts.
“He was a devoted dad to Jessica Gruber and partner to Trudy Waughman.
“He will be sadly missed by both and by all his friends.”
Enquiries into the exact circumstances of the collision are ongoing and officers remain keen to speak with anyone who can assist their investigation. Anyone with information can contact Police on 101 or report online, quoting 44220295763.
