A 45-year-old man has been killed in a fatal road traffic collision that occurred at Cranmore during the early hours of this morning (Saturday), Police have confirmed.
Emergency services were called to Ningwood Hill, just to the west of Cranmore Avenue, at 01:22 following reports of a single vehicle collision.
Police, fire and ambulance crews arrived on scene to find a silver Renault Trafic had left the road and the driver was within the wreckage.
Despite the best efforts of all involved, the driver’s life could not be saved and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
His next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers at this time.
As a result of the crash, the main road between Newport and Yarmouth was immediately closed from Station Road in Ningwood to Hill Place Lane near Bouldnor with collision investigators from the mainland called in.
A forensic examination of the crash scene was conducted overnight before the vehicle was recovered at 07:45, with the road reopening shortly before 11:00.
A spokesperson for Hampshire Constabulary has said:
“The investigation into the cause of the collision is ongoing and we would like to appeal to anyone with information or dashcam footage to contact us on 101 or report online, quoting Operation Happen – 44220295763”.

Absolutely gutted. Lucky enough to have enjoyed one last evening with this wonderful guy recently. His energy ,talent and personality will be sadly missed. RIP buddy.
