Recent adverse weather has forced the postponement of the Fairlee Fireworks event that was due to take place in Newport this Friday (3rd November).
Organisers of the event, which takes place at North Fairlee Farm in Newport, say that the field is currently under several inches of water.
A Met Office weather warning is currently in place across the South Coast with the recently-named Storm Ciaran set to hit later this week.
The event is to be hosted by Mountbatten alongside Isle of Wight Festival and Isle of Wight Radio.
A new date of Sunday 10th December has been set.
“Due to a prolonged spell of persistent wet weather – and with more extreme weather warnings forecast – we are very disappointed to announce that we must postpone this weekend’s Fairlee Fireworks.
“This has not been an easy decision to make but the safety of our guests, volunteers, staff and suppliers are of the utmost importance to us all and, sadly with the site under several inches of water, we simply cannot continue with the event this weekend.
“The good news is that we have been able to reschedule for Sunday, 10 December and all tickets (including ZipFire entries) will be fully transferable. Please keep your QR codes for Sunday, 10th December.”

Whilst I appreciate that the hospice is a vital asset to the entire island and they need to raise funds to keep going ~ it does annoy me that they inflict stress and noise on people and pets, including livestock and wildlife.
Buy a ticket to watch us give an elderly dog a heart attack, it is not right.
I’m not posting this to be nasty, they do a fantastic job and I often donate to them, but they should read the comments on the Island Echo story that says how pleased people are that it is cancelled.
No doubt that I will be thumbed down by people who like hearing loud bangs.
I have to suffer barking dogs all around me 24/7 and that’s not right, did you enjoy fireworks when you were young ? My guessing is that you are elderly and your idea of fun is a good book, and probably live in Brighstone.
Times move on.Years ago people enjoyed working in factories with asbestos. Years ago people enjoyed having slaves.Does that mean it is ok to continue with it.?There are more people out there now with conditions affecting their mental health, autism etc. There are more ex soldiers suffering from PTSD. There are more pets than there were years ago.
Times have changed, people no longer need to be harassed by firework noise, there are laser shows which are quiet and would attract the same amount of people.As for dogs barking around you, well there’s a choice there, you could politely ask the owners or move away from people and pets. You can not get away from fireworks. I am sure that the dogs will bark more once those fireworks start
