A new course studying esports is to be launched at the Isle of Wight College this coming academic year giving students a look into the gaming industry.
The new esport course offers the opportunity to learn from every angle of the industry to build yourself a career in a booming sector. Among others, games that are set to be feature in the course include Clash of Clans, Fortnite and Fifa.
The Isle of Wight College- who are the first on the Island to offer the course- are keen to convey to parents and guardians that esports is a professional course with high-earning career potential attached. The course blends elements of business, digital and sports skills to equip learners with everything they need to move forward into the industry.
Careers in this sector include fitness trainer, nutritionist business manager, event manager, professional esports player, referee, content creator and other digital and sports careers.
Ben Sheridan, Assistant Principal for Curriculum said:
“The UK esports economy has grown over 20% year on year since 2019 and we feel it is the right time to introduce this option without delay. Work has begun on state-of-the-art facilities including dedicated gaming stations with professional gaming chairs, technology and an overall learning environment. We are excited to welcome the first year to use these new facilities in September 2022.”
The course has only just launched for September 2022 and is expected to be incredibly popular. To apply for this course and many others across a wide range of vocational careers, visit the Isle of Wight College website.
This country is absolutely stuffed.
Pensioner.
Might be good if they don’t just cover those few games, how about more on the birth of the video game industry and some “no code” options for learning how to create a game.

Gaming is ruining children… Anxiety…. it all starts here then mental health follows
Maybe if the parents took a hand it what the kids are up to, it wouldn’t be like that. It seems just a case of “Go to your room and play on your console” Don’t blame the games, it is still bad parenting, as is a lot of vandalism and anti-social stuff too.
