On the eve of a major meeting between the ferry companies, the Government and local stakeholders, Red Funnel’s Red Eagle has been pulled from service once again – with a number of cancellations tonight (Tuesday).
An issue with the cooling pump on board Red Eagle has led to the cancellation of at least 4 sailings on the East Cowes-Southampton vehicle ferry service.
It has been confirmed that the 18:00 and 21:00 sailings from Southampton have been pulled, alongside the 19:30 and 22:30 sailings from East Cowes.
It is unclear at this early stage if there will be subsequent cancellations tomorrow.
This evening’s news comes following weeks of disruption on the busy cross-Solent route, particularly for the vessel Red Eagle.
Red Funnel has already admitted that all 3 of its Ro-Ro Raptor-class ferries need replacing, but the company’s financial situation is far from stable, as previously reported by Island Echo.

Dead Funnel. This is going to really help all the debt they are in NOT. Never mind the shareholders are still rubbing there grubby mitts together, they are ok and sod the island.
