An empty commercial premises in the heart of East Cowes could be converted into 2 new flats.
Mr M. Croll applied to County Hall for planning permission to turn the ground floor of 25 – 27 Castle Street in East Cowes, a property formerly home to the Valu 4 U gift shop, into 2x 2-bedroom apartments.
The proposed units would have a bathroom, kitchen, hallway and lounge.
The premises has also been home to the East Cowes Tourist Information Point and Aluminium Marine Consultants Ltd
A Planning Statement submitted as part of Mr Croll’s application said:
“The site is currently vacant and has been on the market for some time. The ground floor is suitable to convert into 2 self-contained flats, being conveniently located in the heart of East Cowes.
“This will add to the residential stock of the area. The site is controlled by the applicant so there is no impediment to developing the site.
“The proposal will generate additional activity resulting in potentially more employment on the Island.”
Highways service provider Island Roads made no objection to the proposal. The council’s public consultation on the plans is due to finish on April 29th and a decision has been scheduled for 19th May.
I miss the old shops, but better to be converted
than remaining empty.
