Isle of Wight darts star Keegan Brown has claimed victory at the Modus Super Series in Portsmouth, defeating Dutchman Jimmy Van Schie 4-2 in Saturday’s final.
Brown averaged 98.29 and hit a 57.14% checkout rate in the final, securing the title with a composed performance under pressure.
Earlier in the evening, he had whitewashed Lewis Gurney 4-0 in the semi-final, registering a 100.2 average and a clinical 66.67% checkout percentage.
A tearful Brown struggled to hold back his emotions after lifting the trophy, reflecting on both the night and his personal journey, saying:
“I’m speechless. It’s the first time I’ve actually believed in myself.”
“How good is Jimmy? The only thing that saved me was a 152, 2 double 18s and a bull’s eye. But that’s what I had to do to beat him.”
“It’s been my wife’s day. She knows what I’ve been going through. It’s been a horrendous 2 and a half years.”
“These are nights you dream of. I’ve always had the attitude of ‘don’t give in’ and give yourself a fighting chance.”
The Newport-based thrower, a former PDC Tour Card holder and long recognised as the Island’s leading darts export, now adds the Modus Super Series crown to his career highlights.
