Police and paramedics are responding to a serious road traffic collision near Shalfleet this afternoon (Thursday).
The incident has occurred between the junctions of Pound Lane and Elm Lane on the A3054 Yarmouth Road – the main road between Newport and Yarmouth.
The crash happened shortly before 16:35.
Island Echo is told that a motorcycle appears to have been involved, but details remain sketchy.
UPDATE @ 16:55 – Police have now closed the road in both directions with local diversions in place.
The Hampshire & Isle of Wight Air Ambulance had been scrambled but in the past few minutes has been stood down whilst en-route to the incident.
UPDATE @ 17:56 – Island Echo understands that the incident has involved a motorcycle and a tractor.
The road is expected to remain closed for several hours.
UPDATE FRIDAY @ 00:35 – The road has reopened to traffic.
