An elderly driver has escaped injury after ploughing into railings at a busy crossroads junction in Wootton this morning (Sunday).
Police are currently in attendance on High Street where a Perodua Myvi has gone head-on into railings at the Cedars junction.
It’s understood the female driver has not sustained any injuries in the single vehicle accident, which occurred shortly before 11:00.
The road remains open and recovery of the car has been arranged.

I’m just surprised she didn’t roll it in the good old fashioned isle of wight way!
All drivers should have to retake their theory test every ten years. This will also give the DVLA the chance to detect anyone, of any age, that are no longer fit to drive.
Wouldn’t do any harm, but how would that stop people crashing into railings? Turning theory into practice dont always work. Agree that it would help weed out some incapable drivers.
It may be reported as a single vehicle accident but it may have been caused by another car who didn’t stop, a gaggle of lycras out on a Jolly, a swarm of motorcycles, my little pony… etc. but lets just jump on the “elderly” bandwagon…
you all jumped on happy hallidays for mentioning oap drivers and now look lol 🙂
I was behind the black unmarked BMW police car that atended this incident. Going along Failea Road with no cars in front of the police car, so why did it have lights flashing and sirens blaring to attend such a minor knock into the railing? What about the night workers !
Because people on the island (not only islanders) drive without noticing what’s behind them, let alone a set of railings in front of them.
Ohh I can see it now, mirrors, yup make up fine, ohh eye shadow .. yup fine, mobile phone, maybe send a quick text I am on my way…, railing…ooops forgot to turn the wheel further…. hope my mobile is ok as it fell out of my hand… ‘ Just my opinion..’
Ban railings! No problems for elderly drivers then. The ones who can’t remember breakfast, but can remember a time when seat belts and driving tests were a handy hint.
Lol, and trees.
It doesn’t say any thing about railings in the driving test
The highway code is a good place to start mirror signal maneuver…..fuck what’s coming its a railing
