31-year-old Joanna Townley has been banned from driving for 20 months after being caught drink driving in Rookley, whilst also in possession of Class A drugs.
Townley, a local chef, appeared before Magistrates on Tuesday where she pleaded guilty to drink driving and possession of cocaine.
The court heard that it was around 21:00 on 14th April this year that Townley, of Orchard Road in East Cowes, was stopped by Police on the Main Road in Rookley. Townley’s Ford Fiesta – HW51 CVV – caught the attention of officers as it was travelling too quickly through the residential area.
It didn’t take long for officers to realise something was amiss and they requested a roadside breath test – which Joanna failed with a reading of 80, the legal limit being 35.
During a search at Newport Custody Centre, Police located several bags of cocaine.
Defending, Oscar Vincent said that the defendant had been enjoying drinks with her mother when she was unexpectedly called by a friend, who she arranged to meet. Mr Vincent said that his client felt ok to drive and made a point to the court that there was no evidence of erratic driving.
Mr Vincent also made clear that the total amount of cocaine found amounted to no more than 0.5g.
Magistrates handed Joanna Townley a 20-month driving ban, fined her £416 and ordered her to pay £85 costs with a £42 surcharge – a total of £543.

Another far too lenient sentence – possession of several bags of cocaine seems to have gone unpunished.
When will the courts get a grip before the Island becomes even more mired in crime . The Police need more support from the courts.
Does she now have a black KA?
When you hear about horrendous families this is an ideal example of low life on the island
Police located several bags of cocaine
the total amount of cocaine found amounted to no more than 0.5g
so, if only half a gramme was actually recorded, yet the police claimed that several bags were located – what happened to them?
half a gramme of any powder is barely even dust in the bottom of a bag.
who nicked the rest.!!
drugs is drugs no matter what the quantity, and driving having consumed alcohol the lady needs to be banned think the defense solicitors needs to agree with the prosecution
