East Cowes Carnival organisers have thanked the Asda Foundation after receiving an £820 grant to support a new youth workshop project aimed at improving mental health and wellbeing among local teenagers.
The funding will help cover the cost of a dance teacher, costumes, and hall hire for 6 free carnival workshops being organised as part of this year’s Isle of Wight carnival season.
Organisers say the workshops are designed to support young people through creativity, confidence building, teamwork and performance, while also giving them the chance to take part in carnival arts free of charge.
Teenagers taking part will also have the opportunity to make new friends, learn new skills and perform alongside the East Cowes Carnival group during this year’s events.
The project forms part of the continuing revival of East Cowes Carnival, which returned last year after a 30-year absence.
Organisers say support from the Asda Foundation and Asda Newport has played an important role in helping rebuild the event for future generations.
A spokesperson for East Cowes Carnival group said:
“As only our second year following the fantastic revival of East Cowes Carnival after a 30-year hiatus, support like this truly makes a huge difference and helps us continue rebuilding something special for our community and future generations.
