Sandown & Shanklin Independent Lifeboat was tasked to launch to the aid of a 35ft yacht during the early hours of this morning (Saturday).
Shortly before 02:30, Solent Coastguard received reports of a vessel with engine failure some 7 miles South East of Sandown Bay.
The decision was taken at the National Maritime Operations Centre (NMOC) in Fareham to call out the volunteer crew of SSILB.
The Independent Lifeboat was underway by 02:55 and it wasn’t long before the crew located the casualty vessel ‘La Ina’ in the busy shipping channel.
It was decided to tow the broken down yacht – which left Southampton at 19;30 last night – to the safety of Sandown Bay to await the arrival of Sea Start for repairs to be carried out.
The yacht was successfully anchored off the lifeboat station between Sandown and Shanklin by 05:00.
