A road traffic collision on the dual carriageway in Newport, which has been described as a shunt, is causing traffic delays in the area this morning (Wednesday).
The incident has occurred on the right-hand lane of the northbound carriageway, between the Lidl onslip and the St Mary’s Junction traffic lights.
Police are on scene and have closed Lane 2, leading to lengthy tailbacks for the morning commute.
No serious injuries are thought to have been sustained.
Motorists should avoid the area, if possible.
UPDATE @ 09:04 – Recovery of the vehicle is underway with the outside lane expected to re-open shortly.
UPDATE @ 12:55 – Island Echo understands that the brakes on the vehicle failed, causing the car to crash into the rear of the vehicle in front.

Motorists need to remember that traffic using slip roads to join dual carriage ways should be given right of way, this applies to both slip roads by Lidl and Curry’s so it only takes one to ignore this and try to speed up instead of slowing down.
Have you actually taken a driving test or just guessing that slip roads have right of way, you only enter a major road if the way is clear and not causing vehicles to brake or take evasive action to avoid a collision, Do us all a favour and keep catching the bus
No you don’t, traffic entering a motorway or dual carriageway from a slip road should give priority to traffic already moving on a motorway or dual carriageway.
Traffic on slip road have to give way to traffic on dual,on their right. Might be curtius to do so.
It is the curtius people that cause most accidents.

It doesn’t say it was at the slip rd it said between the slip rd and st Mary’s junction now you see how many different stories get about
It was much further up than the slip, closer to the 40mph sign before you can turn off to B&q etc.
The biggest problem was the lack of common sense of either party, it was a couple of broken lights and both cars could have moved tight to the barrier allowing traffic to pass rather than causing bedlem.
Brake failure very rare these days, although it’s obvious that the way some people drive they have never experienced it.
its just that most of the island drivers cant drive they passed there test on a very small island that has a very short dual carriageway you just have to look every week sorry day there is a accident and some are just stupid accidents
