28-year-old Jack Tregoning from Ryde, who crashed into a Police car before running away, appeared before the courts and pleaded guilty to 5 different offences on Friday.
Tregoning, of Alexandra Road, admitted failing to stop, failing to provide, driving without a licence, driving without insurance and possession of a Class A drug (cocaine) when he appeared at the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court.
The court heard that during the early hours of 31st July this year, Tregoning – driving a black Vauxhall Corsa – failed to stop for Police on Ashey Road after he was spotted swerving all over the road and braking.
Liz Miller, prosecuting, explained that as Police tried to block Tregoning’s route, he collided with the Police car before decamping from his Corsa and running away.
He when was eventually detained following a short foot pursuit, Tregoning was found to be in possession of 0.5g of cocaine. It was also discovered he did not have a valid driving licence or insurance to be behind the wheel of the Corsa.
The court heard that the 28-year-old had 2 passengers in his car at the time of the offences.
Following his arrest, Tregoning refused to provide a sample of blood for analysis – to detect the presence of any drugs in his system. A breath test recorded the lowest reading of 19, under the limit of 35.
Defending, Barry Arnett said that his client had turned his life around and knows that what he did was wrong. He also added that his client had a history of drug abuse and was taking illicit substances for the best part of 10 years.
In a report read to the court by the Probation Service, it was stated that 28-year-old Tregoning was reflective and wanted to improve his situation.
Jack Tregoning was handed a 12-month community order with 20 rehabilitation days, as well as being ordered to complete 100 hours of unpaid work. He was disqualified from driving for 17 months and ordered to pay costs of £85 and a £114 surcharge fee.

Pathetic punishment from the iow courts yet again
OK, using the Sentencing Guidelines, that ALL Courts in England & Wales HAVE to follow, where would you have set the punishment, and why.
If you just don’t agree with the Sentencing Guidelines then write to your local MP, outlining where and why they are wrong and what should be done instead.
Because writing to Bob Seely is going to make a difference to ANY isle of wight issue
How can you disqualify him from driving for 17 months when he doesn’t hold a valid driving license……crazy
The 17 months starts from when he eventually does get a licence…..
… unbelievable.. and who pays for the damage to the Police car ??
People like this that drive should be imprisoned for at least 12 months… 20 rehab days, after being a 10 year addict.. ?? No Licence or insurance… guess he was lucky he was not drunk !!! Was it his car ? Did they crush it..?
Why do these scum bags think it’s ok to get behind the wheel of a car and drive, it’s beyond me. They care not for the innocent public who they might be unfortunate enough to collide with. Tougher sentences should be handed out due to the numbers of idiots who commit this appauling crime.
Throw him in jail waste of are air
Our legal system is an ass…..not fit for purpose….more idiotic rulings will be along soon…
