Paramedics and firefighters are in attendance in Lake this afternoon (Sunday) where the driver of a Peugeot has crashed into a lamp post.
The incident has taken place on The Fairway, close to the junction with Medeway.
The powered street furniture has been completley flattened in the single vehicle collision, which occurred shortly before 15:50. The pole is understood to have become wedged under the front of the vehicle and has been dragged along the road.
A female – the driver of the Peugeot 307 – is currently being checked over by the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service, but appears to have escaped any serious injury.
Meanwhile, a retained fire crew from Shanklin is making the scene safe due to an exposed live electrical cable. Island Roads is also on scene.
The road is open under direction.
The car is expected to be recovered from the scene due to the extent of the damage sustained.
UPDATE MONDAY – 34-year-old Sitania Hanuska Rose Timms, of Albert Street in Ventnor, has now been charged with driving a motor vehicle with alcohol level above the limit.
She will appear before Isle of Wight Magistrates on 3rd December.

All these lamp posts jumping out in front of cars
“Powered street furniture” ?
‘completed flattened’?
Lake lamp posts have a mind of their own. Take care whilst driving through in daylight!
Why were 2 local councillors in attendance? What actually happened?? Luckily no body was hurt or killed? Seems rather strange?
They had been attending a service at the top of the fairway
Ah, now let me see, dignitaries nearby, remembrance Sunday, war memorial just down the end of the road, could explain why they have been snapped in a picture.
Should have applied the brake instead of mascara lol.
So she’s being done for drink driving? Another idiot thinks it’s acceptable to drink alcohol and drive?? Luckily no one was hurt?
Is she going to pay for the damage caused, no of course not!!
Take her licence off of her.
Let’s hope the sentence is stiff enough ( wishful thinking) to ruin the drink driver’s life cos you could have easily ruined a innocent bystander life by your selfish actions.
Deserves all she Gets, I detest drink drivers. Lucky it was only the poor pole she hit and not a car or a pedestrian. Completely selfish and stupid.
to IE.
Why have you pixelated the number plate of the car in the second photo,.. but not in the first?
Whilst I agree it is in the public interest to know the identity of the person (well at least their car),
it seems strange you’ve done one photo but not the other?
Hi Daemy. It is because the pixelated photo was uploaded yesterday, prior to the charge being known. Now that a criminal charge has been laid we no longer blur the number plate – with the unpixelated photo uploaded today.
Wonder what pathetic excuse she will come out with!!!!!!
Should be hung from a lamp post….
Let’s hope the sentence fit’s the crime?????
Thank goodness no one was walking by at the time!
