A driver has been conveyed to hospital after crashing his car down a narrow country lane near Rookley, writing the vehicle off.
The incident has occurred on Chequers Inn Road between Bleak Down and Bohemia Corner.
It’s understood the vehicle was travelling towards the Godshill end of the single track lane at around 22:00 when the driver lost control, careering up a bank and onto 2 wheels. The vehicle then hit the opposite bank and spun around – coming to rest facing the wrong way.
Paramedics from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service have attended the scene and taken the driver to St Mary’s Hospital for treatment.
A retained fire appliance from Shanklin is on scene in the interests of safety.
Police have closed the road in both directions whilst recovery is arranged.
No other vehicles have been involved and drink nor drugs have played any part in the incident.

Driving to fast I expect they use the island roads as a rain track. Never in my whole living here have I seen so many crashes and wreckless driving
You are right i have seen you trying to park.
Most island drivers are dangerous, they have no understanding of danger, that’s why island drivers are so aggressive..
Don’t think so idiot it’s all drivers
Why do you keep on about it always being island drivers? Nowhere in the report does it say an island driver!!! More likely an ovener or holiday maker that does not know our roads/lanes.
It’s a long winter, yet the island drivers still keep crashing….
Speak for yourself !
We nearly did a whole week without a RTC then two in one day thought we might have a record week oh well always next week lol
Could someone write this report in English so that it makes sense please?
No drink or drugs involved, just pure incompetence then!
Clearly driving too fast, assuming as dark that ‘nothin was comin’ around the bends in that road YET not caring at all if a fox, badger or even a person was walking or cycling where lights would not have alerted this dangerous fool.
Hope it learns, but doubt it, and IF it does, another will replace it.
Too many possible causes to speculate, However, speed must have been a factor to cause so much damage
My God.
What do the people who post on this site actually do all day (that’s useful) ?
Is that a white modified golf? Can’t quite see. One been going around Ryde like it’s a race track. I wonder if it’s the same one.
Maybe the police can stop the morons on them little 125cc bikes with loud exhausts and riding around Ryde streets like it’s a race track, jumping lights and going up one way streets the wrong way. Will not be long before one is embedded into a wall / car / shop front.
Always motor cycles is it I don’t think so are you blind
