The driver of a Vauxhall Corsa is being sought by Police after making off from the scene of a crash in Sandown tonight (Friday).
The collision, between the Corsa and a white MG3, occurred on The Broadway – on the junction with Melville Street – at just before 22:15.
Island Echo understands the driver of the Vauxhall was travelling the wrong way up Melville Street when the crash occurred. They then failed to stop at the scene and made off in the direction of Brading.
Officers have now located the damaged Corsa parked on Morton Common, with a local area search underway to find and detain the driver responsible for the crash.
Evidence is being collected by Police at both The Broadway and Morton Common in a bid to identify the person responsible.

UPDATE SATURDAY – It has been confirmed that a 20-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of drink driving and failing to stop at the scene of a collision.
Police say the occupants of the MG escaped injury.
UPDATE SUNDAY – 20-year-old Levi David Stevens, of Sassoon Place in Waterlooville, has been charged with drink driving and failing to stop at the scene of a collision.

All to frequent, day in day out.
I know this story will fuel the want for a road police unit…however I witnessed a police office pull over a women near KFC yesterday and he was the most arrogant intimidating officer I have ever seen, bully comes to mind and the attitude was completely unacceptable.
That’s my experience of around 60-70% of the officers I’ve had encounters with in the last 30 years – it’s certainly worse on The Island. It’s a real shame because I completely appreciate and respect the job they have to do. It’s just that they allow any uneducated thug to join up and have no mechanism to hold the thugs within to account. Complaints are a joke, I have had a few official apologies and each time there has been no consequence other than “the officer will receive further training”. Sack the little Hitlers, employ sensible and balanced people – it’s simple.
Need more coppers policing the road. Today Ryde residents were harassed by a small biker gang on 125cc bikes and loud exhausts racing up and down the dirt track that runs along side the train track. Lethal for people on foot.
Levi Stevens your a menace and a danger on the roads. 20 years of age and your driving drunk. So immature. You should have your licence taken away for 5 years then be made to take another written and practical driving test. Hopefully by then, you might have grown up!
