A driver who ‘dangerously’ overtook Police officers last night (Friday) is being sought after fleeing the scene. The car stopped at Yaverland car park, but the owner didn’t hang around and took off into a field. The yellow Mini was also being driven without insurance and a valid MOT. As a result, the motor was seized by local recovery agent Bartletts and taken back to their compound. Police are urging the driver to come forward and make themselves known, saying that the vehicle will be crushed if they don’t. An Isle of Wight Police Spokesperson has said:
“Don’t wait too long, after 14 days we will crush the car”.
It is understood that officers were patrolling the area due to reports of anti-social driving in The Bay recently.

No MOT and no insurance and ran away from police do you really think they will be worried about it being crushed
Just crush it and if you catch the dangerous brazen B’stard
Bang him up.
Overtaking kills innocent people, idiots who overtake
make me sick.
What do you mean overtaking kills ,everybody overtakes what do you do stay behind a tractor for
20 miles rather than overtake.?
Some people would. I’m talking the same idiots whose car only seems to drive between 25 and 30mph no matter the road..
Most idiots overtake when people are driving at the
legal speed limit.
There are so many stupid backward law breaking B’stards
on this island who don’t seem to understand right from wrong.
I really don’t think they guna come forward to claim an old banger like that are they! Ain’t worth nothing! Fine they would get from old bill be more then the car’s worth
It was either a lass doing an illegal pass, or a tart in a go-kart.
How do you know?
Anti Social driving is common Islandwide.
Unmarked cars need to patrol Beaper Shute area and
Elmfield, best way to catch speeding motorists.
Trevor, Great Preston Road and High Park Road are
2 speedways, vehicles drive along 50mph+
How there are no speed humps along these 2 roads
I don’t know!
Maybe the DISTRICT STEWARD FOR RYDE should investigate speed
along these roads.
Also need to be around Swanmore Road/West Street with tme mirons racing around
The island is a lawless place when it comes to traffic offences.
Sadly you Trevor and co only have your self to blame.
That wonderful builder and his nice daughter who used to visit him, were hounded by jealous residents along Great Preston Road, just because he unloaded his expensive work tools into his shed and his lovely daughter who , due to chaffed thighs, where tattoos reacting with puppy fat made her disabled, so they both parked momentarily on the pavement.
This action SLOWED traffic, so due to your whinging YOU have increased traffic speeding in GPR now.
So suck it up.
Parking vehicles 24/7 on Pavements is no way to slow vehicles down
it is dangerous for us Mums pushing our prams along Pavements.
Obviously the Numpty Builder doesn’t have young children in prams.
If his daughter was disabled why not give up a space on a driveway,
obviously does not care for his daughters well being, also if a person is disabled
they would be given a blue disabled badge.
Parking on Pavements is a selfish act, it is dangerous for
motorists and pedestrians.
IW Council should patrol all Roads and Streets on the island
and crush any vehicle that is a safety issue for everyone.
Lack of education is the problem, too many motorists think they
can do what they want.
There is a builder in Shanklin who parks on the pavement along
Sandown Road most days and NO one stops him.
You dirty pot head still smoking your weed scumbag
is there a special offer on trainers with all these fleeing persons.
Perhaps the mini driver thought that the ‘Sandown Sprint’ was a permanent feature of this stretch of road.
And perhaps someone will inform the rather cocky ‘Police Spokesperson’ who said that the mini will be crushed in 14 days that it would be better to sell it and give the funds raised to a good cause.
Why crush it? Sell it, surely!
Ill have it for spares..
Driver will have a record, probably on drugs too,do forensics then sell car to cover cost( well partly cover as not worth much) System too soft on serious driving offences while to harsh for minor one’s – used to be stopped and given 24hrs to fix eg for brake light, worn tyre etc.99% if drivers stop for police and will put right anything, it’s just very small minority that don’t.
You are right. Anyone can unwittingly have a faulty light or minor fault and would replace it when noticed or told by Police.
The small minority of criminal aggressive and reckless drivers are the ones who need very serious fines and sentences.
There could be a system to attach penalty points to vehicles too, which then drastically reduces the resale value of the vehicle as it would be crushed once a specified points total is accrued.
Dont crush it ,sell it and donate the money to the hospice or another worthy charity.
They won’t crush it anyways…it will be resold or broken down for parts.
Its twin brother was parked on Downlands Crescent for the past 5 weeks before being driven off yesterday.. Some mistake surely!!
Crush it anyway, Should be done for for all ni tax/insurance/mot/ no licence
Oh dear police, a nice headline for you but I don’t think residents in the bay wanted you to catch the car, they were hoping you were going to catch the driver!
The moron will have a new car already before you even crush this one
Check for finger prints, I would imagine the Numpty who
carried out such a crime would be known to plod.
That’s if the island have the technology to check
finger prints.
Lol
So when did Sandown get renamed as The Bay?
Maybe to make a run down town sound inviting!
‘The Bay’ is a term that encompasses the area including Shanklin, Lake and Sandown, not an alias for Sandown on its own.
The Tories cut the roads policing from the Island, deaths on our roads have sky rocketed. People have died because the Tories want to give more tax money to their oil mates.
Don’t waste it by crushing, sell it to cover some of the cost of the operation.
All Vehicles are registered ??, Look up the registered owner and find out who was using the vehicle at the time. Not difficult surely ?.
