The driver of a Vauxhall escaped serious injury when their vehicle careered off the road at Compton late last night (Saturday).
Police, paramedics and firefighters responded to Military Road at around 23:30 following reports that a single vehicle had left the carriageway and come to rest some distance into a field.
It’s understood the Vauxhall Adam was being driven from Freshwater Bay towards Compton when the driver lost control at the start of a long right-hand bend.
The car – which has sustained significant damage – continued straight on and finally came to a stop around 50 meters into a farmer’s field.
The road was closed in both directions for a time but has since reopened.
Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary has confirmed that 1 person sustained a minor injury.
Hope the person makes a good recovery. Lucky to walk away at all from that.
And fortunately the cows and calves in the field weren’t injured! It could’ve been a very different story!!
Too many Numpty’s speed on this lawless island
Another clueless wannabe Lewis Hamilton…
Obviously knows speed Camera’s don’t exist
on Island Roads.
Nothing will change until the island gets tough
on speeding.
Please don’t tell me this Numpty wasn’t speeding!
Every day vehicles drive along the Military Road at speed
in all conditions.
IW Council should place speed humps on the bends to
STOP speeding in dangerous areas.
IW COUNCIL SEEM CLUELESS WHEN IT COMES TO MAKING
ROADS SAFE
Our roads will NEVER be safe until safety measures are put in place?
It makes me sick!!
There is no evidence to suggest what speed the car was travelling at but the driver seems to have made no attempt to take the turn but rather simply carried straight on. Speed humps on corners are a very, very bad idea as they will destabilise the vehicle which any driver would know. I agree that people drive at dangerous speeds along the Military Road. It has a 60mph limit for the most part yet the other day I followed someone at 25 mph for a long time before it was safe to overtake. They should undoubtedly have been charged with driving without due care and attention. Yesterday I followed someone who kept slowing down so his passenger could take video footage then speeding up. If they wish to attempt cinematography they should stop in a safe place. Speed does not of itself cause accidents, poor driving does and simply to always deploy arguments in favour of cameras and speed humps is simplistic and demonstrates a lack of understanding of the issues involved.
Hear what you say, Marcus, but saying speed does not of itself cause accidents is like saying knives don’t wound or kill people in themselves. If you speed significantly you are putting yourself and others in potential danger, just as you are when you carry a knife.Or am I being over-simplistic?
Instead of boring the readers with your continued comments on this subject, have a go at the powers to be. Keep on at them with lots of letters and go and see them in person. You never know, some numpty might take notice and do something, just to get you off their backs.
He is so lucky it wasn’t over the cliff.
No lesson’s learnt here then because of the safety of the vehicle. The idiot inside is cocooned but the potential damage to everything outside including people wildlife and property is horrendous.
