The Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service are tackling a fire at a property in a residential area of Newport this evening (Wednesday).
Appliances from Newport and East Cowes are on scene at Clarendon Place, off Clarendon Road, having been alerted to the incident at around 17:20.
Island Echo readers report that hoses have been laid out and smoke is issuing from a property.
UPDATE @ 17:50 – It is understood that the fire broke out in the upstairs bedroom of a terraced property.
Thankfully, the situation has been swiftly brought under control and the fire has been extinguished.
1 appliance remains on scene ventilating the property.
No one has been injured.
UPDATE @ 18:45 – 2 breathing apparatus and 1 hose reel jet were used to extinguish the fire in an upstairs bedroom.
Working smoke alarms alerted the homeowner to the fire, who then evacuated the property and dialled 999.
